Edward Boyd’s Bio
Edward Boyd graduated from Pearl High School in 1959. In June of 1965, Edward graduated from Tennessee State University with a BSEE degree.
After graduation, Edward’s second assignment was with a company in a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts. He was a member of an engineering test team working on the Apollo Moon Program. The team had the responsibility for testing and determining the space flight worthiness of equipment that the astronauts would use to safely land on the moon.
He moved from Massachusetts to Phoenix, Arizona where he worked for two years. Then he moved to California finding his ideal job with a company that pioneered the design and development of communication satellites. This gave him the opportunity to work on some of the most advanced satellite programs this country has developed.
As a Communication Engineer, he was involved in the design and development of numerous space programs, such as: The Venus Exploration Program, that landed probes on the planet Venus, the Telsat Program, which produced satellites that provided worldwide telephone and TV service, the GOES Program, that produced satellites that provides the satellite weather photos, the MILSTAR Program, that developed the satellites that gave the military secure global communications, and finally the program that we’re most familiar with, DIRECTV. Edward retired in 1998.
